Training Workshop for Checkmyschool Area Coordinators Held in Manila

As part of equipping Checkmyschool (CMS) Area Coordinators the necessary skills and information for the advocacy, a training workshop was held last May 31 to June 3, 2012 at The Pearl Hotel in Manila.

Some of the topics discussed during the workshop include relevant processes on school data gathering, management and dissemination; operating processes and protocols of the different offices of the Department of Education; resource mobilization techniques; strategic engagement with community members and other education stakeholders; use of digital technology for advocacy; and how other citizen-led initiatives for public education services can provide complementation and synergy with CMS activities.

CMS experiences, monitoring tools, and protocols were presented and consulted with the participants, which helped in the preparation of plans at the community level.

CMS Area Coordinators are volunteers who will be in-charge of implementing CMS Community Validation Exercise in at least six schools through the help of pool of volunteers he or she can mobilize. In addition, they will also help facilitate resolution of at least one community-identified school issue noted during the validation exercise.

CMS Area Coordinators come from different non-government organizations, academic institutions, and local government units.  At present, CMS has 42 Area Coordinators from 26 cities and provinces nationwide.
