The resolution of the different public school issues identified through Checkmyschool.org (CMS) has shown that constructive engagement through multi-stakeholder participation is indeed a key factor in providing concrete solutions. An excellent example would be the case of the classroom constructed in Rangaban Elementary School in Midsayap, North Cotabato.
Results and accomplishments of Checkmyschool.org (CMS) for the second year of the initiative’s implementation were presented to the public on the 15th of April, 2013 at the Social Development Complex Auditorium of Ateneo de Manila University. Government champions and groups that advocate transparency and social accountability in governance were also given recognition for their participation in the initiative, through the CMS Heroes and the Social Accountability Awards.
As part of nation building and contribution in social development, Checkmyschool.org (CMS) and the Center for Social Action of the De la Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) engage in a formal partnership, commenced through a ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on the 13th of March, 2013 at the Center for Social Action office .
Heads of the Instructional Materials Council Secretariat (IMCS) and the Physical Facilities and Schools Engineering Division (PFSED) respond to Checkmyschool.org (CMS) reports for school textbooks and facilities for December and January, 2013.
Checkmyschool.org, in line with its thrust of helping improve delivery of public education services, joins the discussion and convention of partners of the Education Cluster last January 25, 2013. The education cluster is a collective body of civil society organizations and governance centers—housed in the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability –East Asia and the Pacific (ANSA-EAP) —that aims to consolidate all efforts and initiatives in improving public education toward a unified voice.
For 15 National Service Training Program (NSTP) students of Saint Louis University in Baguio City, training community members who will be in-charge of monitoring the delivery of their own school services may be a challenge they need to work out. But with proper guidance and luck, they may develop a new breed of proactive citizens capable of demanding their rights while knowing how to constructively engage the government and other stakeholders in improving public education service delivery.
Checkmyschool is a participatory monitoring initiative which aims to improve the education services in public schools. It works on a blended approach by combining digital technology and community mobilization. To do this, CMS provides the public access to information on education services, venues for sending feedback, and networks education stakeholders who can help in solving issues. It has the slogan, promoting transparency and social accountability one school at a time.
There is a glimpse of hope toward improving book supply for selected public schools in Visayas, thanks to the response of the DepED's Instructional Materials Council Secretariat (IMCS) to Checkmyschool.org's (CMS) report sent last October 2012.
Prompted by the reports sent by Checkmyschool.org (CMS) on December 4, 2012, selected schools from Guimbal and Ilolilo will have new seats and receive funds for the repair and construction of classrooms and water and sanitation facilities.
The Department of Education (DepED) and the Affiliated Network for Social Accountability in East Asia and the Pacific (ANSA-EAP) extend their formal partnership for Checkmyschool.org (CMS), through another Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) starting December 2012. The agreement will be effective for the next 18 months.
